Celebrating Women’s History Month in Indiana at Comcast

Women's History Month, how to celebrate women's history month

Women’s History Month is a time to celebrate the remarkable achievements and contributions of women throughout history. At Comcast, we acknowledge the vital role women have played in shaping our society and the telecommunications industry. From Ada Lovelace, celebrated as the first computer programmer to Radia Perlman, whose invention helped stabilized information traffic on the Internet, we celebrate trailblazers who have paved the way for future generations. Join us as we highlight the stories of inspiring women and their impact on our company and the world.

Comcast is home to many Employee Resource Groups (ERG), including the Women’s Network, which are employee-led groups that bring colleagues together to host networking events, community service activities and educational offerings across our footprint.

To celebrate Women’s History Month, Women’s Network members share more about the organization and their careers. Mallory McComb is an Operations and Strategy Specialist 3 based in Michigan and has been with Comcast for six and a half years.  She is also a co-lead of the Women’s Network ERG for Comcast’s Heartland region. We sat down with Mallory to talk about her career and the Women’s Network.

Tell us a little about yourself

I started my career at Comcast as an agent in the Macomb, Michigan call center. I joined the Operations and Strategy Specialists (OSS) team virtually at the end of 2020 where I’ve been growing my career and was recently promoted. I love my role on this team because I get to help our account management agents understand and communicate our products and offers to aid our existing customers. Outside of work I have many hobbies including playing ice hockey, practicing yoga, paddleboarding, fishing, and working on various crafts like quilting and cross-stitching.

When did you join the Women’s Network and what drew you to the organization?

I joined the Women’s Network a little over a year ago. I was looking for ways to meet people outside of my team, and to gain more professional experience.

What is the best part about being part of the Women’s Network?

The best part about being a part of the Women’s Network is that I have been able to connect with people in various parts of the business. By knowing how other parts of the company work, I can do my job more effectively and now have connections in different departments to reach out to as resources, and vice versa. It has also been great for attending live events and interacting with others which I don’t get to do as a virtual employee.

Can you tell us about a colleague who inspire you?

My director, Mercedes, is a great inspiration to me. Since my team began reporting to her, I’ve seen her go above and beyond to improve processes that benefit not just my team, but the entire company and our customers. It’s clear she truly cares about her work and is driven by the desire to enhance business processes, not for personal gain, but for the greater good.

She is unafraid to question current practices and uses data and real-life examples to support her initiatives. Her solutions are both creative and forward-thinking. Having a leader like her makes it easy to want to work just as hard, and she sets a great example of the professional I aspire to become.

Tell us about an impactful event held by the Women’s Network

We did a domestic violence event with Ashley Bendiksen, a survivor who shared her story and information about identifying and dealing with domestic violence. It is a tough conversation but a necessary one, and it created a great conversation and allowed others to open up about their experiences. I know this event was impactful to those in the room and the information and overall message will reach far beyond that to friends and family members of our ERG.

What advice to you have for women who are starting their careers?

Draw from your past experiences and find ways to translate them into what you are doing now. Continue learning and observing others around you in and outside of work and learn from that too. Have a growth mindset, take feedback gracefully and implement it. Don’t make excuses, only find solutions to improve going forward. Support others don’t be in competition with them.
