Honoring Old Glory Through Comcast’s Flag Replacement Program

Company’s VetNet Employee Resource Group Retires and Replaces Worn Flags Throughout Indiana

An extension of its ongoing dedication to supporting veterans and their families, Comcast’s Operation Old Glory, is a flag replacement program, that is run through the company’s VetNet employee group, an organization that connects active military, veterans, military family members, and military supporters. With the help of VetNet, and other employee resource groups, Comcast employees provide meaningful service that directly impacts the community.

When a Comcast technician reports a distressed, faded, or torn US flag to the local VetNet employee group, the flag will be retired and replaced in accordance with military protocols, free of charge. Any home or business is eligible for the program, not just those that are subscribed to our services.

“It is a privilege for us to recognize the significance of the American flag to everyone in our communities, as well as honor our veterans and active-duty military members, through our Flag Replacement Program,” said Comcast Human Resources Director and VetNet Executive Sponsor Tammie Dunlop-Lyon. “It is also extremely meaningful and fulfilling for employees involved in the program who are also veterans, including myself.”

“The flag is a symbol of everything we fought for. It is a symbol of freedom, democracy, and hope. I love the chance to put reminders throughout our community.”

$1 Million to Support the Military Community

Through our Project UP initiative, Comcast is committing $1 million in 2024 to several military community-serving organizations to support digital skills-building programs, entrepreneurship opportunities, and access to essential technology.

One partner in this commitment is NPower, which provides free tech training for transitioning service members and military spouses, job placement services, and Cybersecurity and Cloud skills training programs.

“Through our partnership with Comcast, we are helping address critical technology training needs of servicemen and women transitioning to civilian life,” said Bertina Ceccarelli, Chief Executive Officer of NPower. “By being thoughtful about the military community’s needs, we can help make that shift more seamless and impactful for individuals and the companies that seek to hire them.”

Comcast NBCUniversal is proud to be ‘military-ready’ in its commitment to providing exceptional media and technology experiences for our military customers and fostering one of the nation’s top workplaces for veterans and military spouses. As we commemorate Military Appreciation Month, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to our military-connected customers, teammates, and partners for their invaluable service and dedication.
