How Gigabit internet changed my life and my business

A room full of server equipment.

A few months back, the world watched as one dad experienced every parent’s work-from-home nightmare on live TV. Political science expert Robert Kelly was being interviewed by the BBC via webcam from his home when his two children burst into the room.

Of course, not many parents who work from home are being interviewed on national TV, but like me, many use video conferencing. As a consultant, I do virtual online marketing seminars that require me to sit in front of a screen and interact with my subscribers. Although I’ve never had my children interrupt me on a call, I have lived in fear of another issue telecommuters have come to dread: Network disruption.

Between my smart TV, my two kids on their devices and my wife browsing and working online, we maxed out the capabilities of our WiFi. During my video sessions with subscribers, I was constantly on high alert knowing that even a small glitch had the potential to impact my reputation. And when you’re a solopreneur, your reputation is all you have.

I spent a lot of time resetting my modem and making calls to customer service. But that was then. Now, I have XFINITY Gigabit internet and life – and my business – have never been better.

Now, I can focus on my message and delivery instead of worrying about my internet going out. Plus, I can also upload videos of the seminars online in minutes, which adds an additional layer of professionalism to the services I provide. At the same time, my three-year-old son and nine-year-old daughter can play online games and watch their favorite YouTube videos. It’s incredible.

When I’m done with work, I love to stream TV and videos. Before getting 1 gig, it was nearly impossible to watch movies in bed with the service from my previous internet provider without employing various signal extenders plus an extra helping of patience. Now, I can watch anywhere from the basement to the bedroom without interruption.

I’ve had 1 gig service from XFINITY for about three months and since the installation, I’ve been telling everyone I know they should get it too. Speaking of the installation, the process was great. I was able to use the XFINITY My Account app to see exactly who was coming to my home and get updates on their arrival time. It only took about 20 minutes to get the connection up and running and we haven’t looked back.

I’ve been able to increase the frequency of my sessions and keep my family happy at the same time. FaceTime, Skype calls – we do it all and with XFINITY 1 gig, it’s never an issue. I haven’t experienced a moment of downtime and my kids haven’t snuck in on a meeting – yet.
